Pine Island moves to be more welcoming

City embracing a measure for diversity

Getting a new boat.

New at six... this week... the city of pine island passed a welcoming resolution declaring residents from all walks of life are welcome.

It declares the community will strive to be free of discrimination..

Hatred and violence.

But one resident says the city still has a long way to go.

"* three black lives matter protests have happened here so far ?

"* and one residet expects they will continue.

Alice is kopp is actively involved in the protests.

Kopp says it's important to start a conversation on this movement.

Kopp wants the demonstration s to push people to think and talk about racism "before we started protesting it seemed like people didn't really talk about it or there were a handful of people who were on the down low, not necessarily as open and vocal."

"* they all declined to talk to me about the welcoming resolution.
