Governor's decision on reopening schools.

Nysut wants a clear state-wide policy on what districts will do if there happens to be a positive covid-19 case in the school.

News channel 2's caitlin irla reports.

As schools across the state prepare to reopen in the fall, new york state united teachers and thunitfederation os demanding that state health officials issue clear protocols for how and when school districts would handle a positive covid-19 case.

.

None .

None "the demands are to make sure there is a plan that there is more clarity for some of the if/then statements.

Lose ends that need to be tied up, and one of them first and foremost what happens if and when someone is tested positive, what's going to be the protocol?"

Rob wood is the president of the rome teachers association.

He says the governor is leaving out guidance for one of the most asked... and most important questions.

"if it's a family of students, where something happens in one building, its an extension and the possibility is a lot of people are exposed in a short period of time, so again safety first, know what the plan is before we ask parents and the members that worknhe facily to make aecision."in thes before revisiting whether it is safe for the building to reopen.

I also feel confident that our leadership in nysut will force hopefully the governor to make the right decision as far as what are we going to do, lay out the plan in advance so its very clear what the procedures are during this process" wood says union officers met this afternoon to discuss these concerns and plan to send a unified message to the state.
