MUW leaders enact quarantine plan after coronavirus outbreak

The Mississippi University for Women is enacting its quarantine plan after seven people contracted the coronavirus.

On campus.

Wtva's nicole dantzler tells us what procedures they're following.

Right now, president nora miller said there are seven coronavirus cases on campus but she said the university is proactive in following the quarantine plan.

Because three or more cases is considered an outbreak, president miller said the university is taking action to slow the spread of the virus.

Nora miller: "we're social distancing, we're sanitizing, we're disinfecting, we're wearing masks."

Part of their quarantine plan is to house students in a building on campus where they can self-isolate or quarantine.

Nora miller: "we knew it was going to happen and we've been preparing for this since may and we put our plans into action."

The four nursing students were asymptomatic, but were identified through contact tracing.

Miller said all seven people who tested positive for the coronavirus have been transmitted off campus.

"probably a campus classroom is the safest place to be because we've taken all these measures."
