Spring park.

Local veterans held a news conference at the madison county courthouse to explain the importance and history of the confederate monument.

They pointed out - the statues are there to honor the military service of our ancestors.

They wanted to make it clear that the statues do not stand for racism or white supremcecy.

Instead, they said the monuments were built in the north and south as veterans were aging out.

The confederate monuments erected for race and white supremacy ...they were not the union statues put up for their dead that never came back from the war.

You might say that union military were segregated all the way to the 1950s before they started letting the black ppl serve.

The speakers believe that the monument will be better protected in front of the court house.

They also think there should be a monument built for the black union soldiers.

The county commission did vote to relocate the monument.

But they are waiting to hear from the state on how to do that
