A lot of others across the country took it's first steps at staying afloat this afternoon..

Athletic director mike bobinski..

Head football jeff brohm..

And mens and womens basketball coaches matt painter and sharon versyp donated 1-million dollars back to the athletic department..

This is just the beginning of the newly launched more than a game campaign..

Nat mitch: he's got a really hard assignment now holding things together when he's lost half his revenue.

Purdue president mitch daniels tells it like it is..

Athletic director mike bobinski's job has changed with the pandemic..

But his mission to provide student athletes the best experience while on campus..

Hasn't wavered..

Mike: it's not optional.

You know we are not going to close the doors here.

Shutter mackey and you know turn ross-ade into a drive-in movie theatre, you know we are not doing that.

In an effort to mitigate the loss of jobs, sports, and other important pieces to his puzzle..

Bobinski is relying heavily on fundraising through the more than a game campaign.

Nat mike: i don't know that there's ever been anything more important, that we have ever launched here.

The proof is in the numbers..

Employees in the department are taking anywhere from 5 to 50 percent pay cuts..

And the bill to pay the student athletes scholarships?

Mike: it is literally going toouch every single person in purdue athletics..

12 million..

Mike: those that step forward now and help us get through this, will have a place in purdue athletics lore and legacy and history forever.

Through the good times..

And the bad..

President daniels knows bobinski is up for that really hard assignment..

Mitch: he's just the right guy to help us navigate through this really difficult situation.

Remember purdue is one of the largest universities in the country that has a completely self sufficient athletic department..

Which means the organization runs completely on donations and event revenue from year to year..
