In lieu of the recent confirmed positive cases, WAAY 31's Grace Campbell spoke with the Hartselle City Schools superintendent about changes they're making to keep families up to date on coronavirus issues.

New information - today hartselle city schools announced 14 people in the school system tested positive for coronavirus.

242 people are quarantined.

When i spoke with superintendent dr. dee dee jones, she told me today's the first day the district is sending out a newsletter to parents about the number of cases.

She also told me the district is looking at each school individually - and change switch them to virtual if there are too many cases."we're looking and reevaluating our plan to look at the number of impact, the number of students impacted by this so, where we have more cases or where we've had to quarantine more students.

So, right now we are in the process of 'do we need to address that'" graphic as of thursday, every school in the hartselle city school district has some students and teachers in quarantine.

Hartselle intermediate has 2 positive cases.

Both barkley bridge and hartselle junior high have 3 positive cases.

And the high school has 6 positive cases.

Hartselle city schools superintendend, dr. dee dee jones, says they do not have a definitive percentage that would cause a school to close down, but they're looking at closing a school down if 20% of the students and 17% of teacher test positive at one time.

"if we needed to shut down, we would do that, or if we needed to go to a different schedule, we would do that if that's needed."

Jones says the district is following all the alabama department of health guidelines by requiring masks, social distancing, temperature checks and increased cleaning protocols.

She says the district is doing their part to keep people safe and the numbers will stay down if students do theirs.
