U-o takes one path... another university right next door heads in a completely different direction.

Kezi 9 news reporter jillian smukler joins us live from bushnell university to show us how the small private school is dealing with a new term.

Matt -- renee -- here at bushnell classes started this monday for all students.

Instead of going online... like u-o and o-s-u... bushnell is holding in person clases.

And just like the state colleges... they're also allowing kids to move back into dorms. according to school officials... they're relying on the beacon pledge -- an honor system --- to hold each other accountable.

Students are told to self monitor for symptoms of illness -- be vigilant about hygiene and physical distancing and wear face coverings when neccessary.

But -- there is no on-campus testing or temperature checks being done.

They say if a student has any symptoms or feels they need to be tested they should contact their primary care provider for testing in the area.

As far as enforcement of the rules im told they will do that from within -- and*not use resources such as eugene police.

We have very specific directions and routine resident hall meetings and resident assitance and resident directors which live on staff and live on student assistance to enforce the policy on campus."

"we want to be able to trust one another and enforce it as much as we can when we are out and about seeing each other so as far as ive seen this first week back to school everyone has done a good job with that" both of them told me making sure students don't relax as the school year goes on -- and continue to hold one another accountable is the most important thing.

Their dean of students and covid-19 task force made up of 15 faculty members will be going around ensuring everyone is following the rules and give reminders whenever they are not.

I asked fuller what will happen if a student*doesn't follow the rules after repeated warnings and he tells me they would no longer be a student there.

He says students want to get back to normalcy and start school again so bad that all of them -- so far have been compliant with the rules.

He also says because their school is much smaller than others -- everyone knows each other on a first name basis -- and its much easier to call out those who aren't listening and take care of it.
