To help heal people from gun violence...ended in gun violence.

Lexington police say seven people ranging in age from 18 to 40 were shot last night outside the dunbar community center.

Abc 36's christy bollinger reports police are relying on you for help figuring out why this happened.

Christy"family friends tell us the sunday night cookout here at the dunbar community center was to honor the fayette mall shooting victim 17 year old kenneth bottoms jr."

Lexington police say around nine sunday night..

Officers were called to the area of upper, fifth and toner streets.

They found an abandoned cookout where seven people had been shot...two older teen boys...a 21-year-old man and woman....and three men ages 29, 34, and 40.

Police say six drove themselves to the hospital and are doing okay...but one man was more seriously hurt.

Officers say multiple people fired shots...but they're getting conflicting stories from witnesses... they say some claim it was a drive-by shooting, others say someone walked up to the basketball court and opened fire.

Police say they don't many shots were fired..

But witnesses say dozens.

Is this shooting connected to several others this summer?

Police say they're still investigating.

The community action council helps headstart students learn right next door..

Executive director sharon price says it's hard to know how to stop the violence.

It's not a solution at all."

Christy"investigator say they rely on witnesses and witnesses to cooperate to help solve crimes like this one.
