Tomorrow the Clark County School District will consider renaming Kit Carson Elementary School.
Opponents of the name point to Carson's record of suppressing Native Americans in the 1800s.
He played an important roll in forcefully moving a group of Navajos from their ancestral lands.
Many died during the trip.
The state's capital Carson City was also named after him.
