U.S. Congressman Michael Guest toured the new facility Wednesday on the campus of Mississippi State University.

Guest walked the halls of the new partnership middle school in oktibbeha county this morning.

Wtva's rhea (ree-uh) thornton is in starkville to learn more about why this visitor came to check out the school.

I'm outside of partnership middle school where congressman michael guest stopped by to see the new facility.

With coronavirus pressuring school's to maintain social distancing, he said this new building could not have come at a better time... congressman michael guest - third congressional district: "it is great to see our school districts really working to get children back into a more traditional model of learning."

The starkville oktibbeha schools and mississippi state teamed up for the the partnership middle school to give a hands-on learning experience to both middle schoolers and the college students.

Congressman michael guest came to visit the new facility to see what it was all about... congressman michael guest - third congressional district: "not only do we have a great facility, but with the interaction between the university and the school system, we have such an opportunity to expand this to future grades, to future schools.

So we wanted to come and see first hand what they have to offer here."

Many people worried about the safety of students as classrooms opened for instruction.

However, congressman guest believes the best way to learn is in the classroom.

Congressman michael guest: "they need one-on-one interaction with a teacher and so we're going to do all that we can to make sure that we are protecting our children.

I think that the school district is working hard here in starkville and i think across the state."

The congressman noted the school followed the guidelines set.

But even with all the changes, it seems students are just glad to be back in school... congressman michael guest: "to see these students walk around, to see the smile on their face, to see how excited that they are to be in this facility, it was just truly uplifting day."

Now, i asked the congressman about stimulus checks.

He said its an ongoing negotiation and seems to be stalled right now... guest said the house of representatives returns next week and they will make another push for a new stimulus package.
