Reach services in terre haute says homlessness has increased significantly since the covid-19 pandemic began.

Earlier this month...we reported the organization was receiving money to help this issue.

News 10's dominic miranda spoke with officials with "reach services" this morning.

He has more on how they're working through the challenges covid-19 presents... at the beginning of september...reach services received money as a part of the covid-19 emergency relief fund.

Lead case manager here at reach services... jesica rohrkaste... tells me they are using that money daily to help give the homeless a place to call home.

She says...they've been able to navigate the challenges that covid-19 has provided throughout the process.

Rohrkaste says homelessness has increased during the covid-19 pandemic.

If they run into issues with a person's health records or someone that has symptoms.... they make sure they get the help they need from a doctor or different agency around the area.

She says overall...this project has gone very well so far.

"the need has increased so much just because of covid alone.

I mean regularly we have tons of people that call but because of covid you can hear the fear in people's voices that they don't have a place to go and they don't know what to do.

It's just been great knowing that all these extra people are getting the help they need."

Reach services has partnered with private land lords and different property management teams around the area.

This funding has allowed them to find those in need of a home, a place to live.

Rohrkaste says they are helping move 3 people in this week.

She explained how you at home can help them help even more people moving forward.

"anybody can help and everyone deserves a nice place to stay.

If you know someone or you see someone that's homeless that is needing help, please make sure you tell them that 'hey reach services has this program, call them.

I know you can get the help.'

Call us for them i mean anybody in this community can help once they see someone in need."

Rohrkaste says when they give these people a home...they typically don't have many possessions.... so you can also help by donating furniture to reach services.
