Clashes erupt after Indonesian government passes jobs bill into law
Clashes erupted in Indonesia on Tuesday (October 6) after the government passed a controversial new employment law.
Protesters damaged a police car in Bandung City, West Java before officers arrested 10 people allegedly involved.
"We suspect that the perpetrators were not from the mass of workers or students.
We are still investigating their identities," said Commissioner Ulung Sampurna Jaya, Bandung Police Chief.
Riots also occurred when the police dispersed the crowd in front of the West Java Regional Parliament Building in Bandung City.
The mob pelted police with plastic bottles and stones.
They also reportedly threw Molotov cocktails at the parliament building in West Java.
The police said there were no injuries in this incident.
The employment law that was recently passed by Indonesia's parliament has been met with strong resistance.
The regulation is believed to reduce many workers' rights, even though the government says it can make investment easier.
