Get Fit Friday 10/09/20 - Fall Races

Beth Jeffers and Whitney Brown from Fitness Factor tell us about some fun fall races

Beth jeffers: good morning.

Welcome to get fit friday.

I'm beth jeffers joined here with whitney brown.

Whitney brown: good morning.

Beth jeffers: and we're at the fitness factor.

And today we know the weather's gotten beautiful.

Whitney brown: awesome.

Beth jeffers: it's just awesome.

It's time to get outside and we know that a lot of times, this time of year, there's a lot of races.

Whitney brown: mm-hmm .

Beth jeffers: i think a race is kind of a motivation.

Whitney brown: sure.

Beth jeffers: and fun run type thing to get your running game on or walking and that type of thing.

But now with the covid, i think that the whole dynamic and the whole complexion of races has changed.

Whitney brown: absolutely, but the good news is you can still do them, but virtually.

So there are a few things coming up in the next few months that we wanted to make you aware of if you're interested in using a race or some kind of run as an accountability factor.

Beth jeffers: right.

Definitely.

Whitney brown: so you can use it for accountability if you want to get started running or walking or just to improve your health, or if you want to do it for a good cause.

So the first one is a le bonheur children's hospital 5k and 10k like a pumpkin fun run kind of thing.

You just go to their website.

You can raise money for them.

I think there's a fundraising arm option, but there's also a way that you can just sign up, get on the books and they give you a date range and you run your race in that date range.

Whitney brown: there's also the mississippi diabetes foundation walk for diabetes.

Typically, we have one.

Our local chapter in columbus has a fun walk at the riverwalk, but this year they're going to do everything virtually.

So again, you can go online, you can fundraise for someone if they're very interested in that cause, you're welcome to create a fundraising team and then you can do a 5k walk with your group or by yourself for the mississippi diabetes foundation.

That's going on the entire month of october.

Beth jeffers: that's great.

Whitney brown: and then another one is the st.

Jude marathon weekend.

Now that's a really big race for people around here.

Beth jeffers: it is.

Mm-hmm .

Whitney brown: there's all kinds of things that they do.

They have kids runs, they've got 5ks, 10ks, 13, half marathons and marathons.

Beth jeffers: yes.

Whitney brown: but the good news is you don't have to just do the marathon.

You can do all kinds of fun challenges that they have.

Again, that's all virtual and it's going to take place at the end of november, so you've got a little time if you want to train for that.

So there's still ways to get your racing on, to get outside and to stay active, but for a good cause this race season.

Beth jeffers: and the other thing too, if maybe you were intimidated to do a race and it's a great way to start.

Whitney brown: oh yeah.

For sure.

Beth jeffers: and you can do it by yourself, or like whitney said, get a couple of friends and it's an awesome, awesome motivation, for sure.

Whitney brown: it is.

So check those out online.

Le bonheur children's hospital, mississippi diabetes foundation, and the st.

Jude children's research hospital in memphis.

Thanks for tuning in.

We'll see you next week on get fit friday.
