The Salvation Army is trying a hybrid approach to their red kettle drive for 2020, with some donations in person, and some online.

The salvation army has a new way of collecting donations for the red kettle drive this year due to coronavirus restrictions.

The salvation army will be takng a hybrid approach.

They will only have 8 red kettles placed at different sites in chico for people to donate in- person and will be taking donates online.

Salvation army captian arwyn rodriguera says they usually receve one hundred thousand dollars in donations every year but with fewer kettes out in public and the switch to virual - could negatively impact this years dollar amount.

"we don't really know what to expect this year.

People are struggling, lets face it.

In our office we have seen an increase in those that are newly unemployed and are coming here to receive our services for the first time this year."

Rodriguera says that people will be able to make their virtual donations through apple pay or google pay.

And that the first in-person red kettle will be out on november 9th at hobby lobby in chico.
