Preparing for a COVID style Thanksgiving

Maybe not more so for the people that rely on a community gathering for their meal.

All is quiet in the dining room here at the rescue mission of utica on this sunday morning...workers are preparing for the daily to-go lunch....and it'll be a similar scene to this....this year on thanksgiving day.

None tc : 17:23 "we'll just use our dining room a different way, will just set it up to prepackaged meals versus to serve people waitress style so itll just be set up differently."

Recue mission of utica executive director wendy goetz says this year's it'll be thanksgiving covid- style.

Tc : 13:15 "were going to be doing curbside to go so if someone wants a meal, you can walk up, drive up, between 11:30 and 1:00 where prior years people came in here and had their meal.

And there was a real sense of community so i missed that a little bit but will make adjustments."

Goetz says this year, if you have a relative that you know may rely on a community gathering on the holiday like the mission's thanksgiving dinner for someone to talk to, they will not get it this year, because the meals are to go....to reach out to them...and if you one of the people who will be alone... tc : 13:44 "the faith, you got a reach out to your friends and family and the people that are always there by phone our one on one visit."

If you'd like to help this year...goetz says the mission will really be able to use some store made fruit pies and stuffing mix...so if people want to donate them the week of thanksgiving that would be much appreciated.

She is also looking for volunteer drives to deliver thanksgiving meals on thanksgiving day.
