This daring amateur herpetologist lets wild snakes bite him and posts the videos on Instagram to educate people about reptiles.

David Orin Humphlett, 21, has a passion for all that slithers, and claims his motivation for making the shocking videos is to show people that snakes aren't really that dangerous.

"For the majority of the bites I take, especially the snake bites, they're not really painful," said Humphlett, a delivery driver from Gainesville, Florida.

"The last thing I want to do is hype it up and demonize the snake.

"The truth is that snake bites don't hurt much.

I took an iguana bite once though, and that hurt and left a scar." Humphlett's Instagram profile has a banner that reads "21-year-old slave to Christ" and the wildlife entertainer claims that his faith has informed much of his passion for animals.

"My motivation is not a sadistic one," he said.

"The most important thing to me is my love for Christ.

"I want to see animals taken care of, and I want people to be good stewards of God's creation." When asked whether he thought he was taking advantage of the wild animals, Humphlett compared himself to famed zoologist Steve Irwin.

"I get close to sensationalization, but the question is how much is too much?

"Steve Irwin didn't seem tacky or forced, but other people, I won't name names, do.

"I love snakes and in every one of my bite videos, I intentionally state that the bite doesn't hurt very bad.

"It's a little bit of sensationalizing and it definitely gets the attention, but I never want to take it overboard.

"I really do love animals and being around them, but I'm in it for the hearts and minds of people.

"I want to see them changed and educated about snakes.

"It's an ideological game and I'm intentional about playing it." Humphlett claims that he doesn't want to work at a zoo because he's more interested in watching animals in the wild.

"A lot of birders share the same passion.

"Snakes are really elusive and sometimes I'll scream over snakes I find because they're so rare.

"That's a genuine feeling.

"I once spent over 500 hours trying to find eastern mud snakes and only found about eight in the entire time." Humphlett has been out catching venomous snakes for about five years so far, and he's honed his skills along the way.

"There was definitely a time in my life when there was more risk in what I was doing.

It's been a bit of a learning curve.

"Luckily both my parents are very supportive.

My mom will even come out and catch snakes with me." As for monetizing his extreme hobby, Humphlett is still trying to find ways to get his videos out there.

"I'm part of the TikTok creator fund, so I've made a few thousand with that.

"I'm really wanting to do some stuff on YouTube as well." Humphlett's videos can be found on his Instagram: @adventorin
