SOBLACC is hosting a meeting to discuss a Black Agenda.

Recent shooting death of aidan ellison -- who attended ashland high school -- is a reminder of the importance of working for a more equitable and just community though the coalition says it initially began planning this meeting weeks ahead of aidan ellison's killing -- his case made it even more critical to start a discussion about racial injustice within the community.

The black 19 year old was shot and killed by a white man -- robert keegan -- in the parking lot of ashland's stratford inn following an argument just days before thanksgiving.

The federal bureau of investigation is investigating whether the crime was racially motivated.

One facilitator of the meeting tonight says soblacc could not conduct its meeting without acknowledging ellison because no one was there to speak up for him.

He was murdered he was unarmed and he was murdered and that's a problem.

Jenkins says soblacc wants to create a space for black people in southern oregon to speak about their experiences.

Soblacc starts its meeting at 6 o-clock tonight.

Ashland city council member gina duquenne will be in attendance and other black leaders of the community.

Stay tuned for newswatch 12 special edition at 8 tonight, where you'll hear from people who attended the meeting.
