North Side Freshman Brauntae Johnson Taking the Summit City by Storm

There was plenty of buzz surrounding Brauntae Johnson coming into his freshman year of high school, but somehow, he's been even better than advertised.

January 30th... hey good evening everyone..

Taking the summit city by storm..that's exactly what brauntae johnson has done since the start of the school year..sure there was plenty of buzz around the two-sport star coming into the year, but somehow, "tae tae" as they call him, has been even better than advertised..petar hood has more on north side's fabolous freshman..

Narr: standing at 6-foot-3, brauntae johnson doesn't look like your typical high school freshman... and he doesn't play like one either.?nat pop - announcer: beautiful dribble.

Look at that.

That's why he's so highly touted kids.

Tae tae johnson can play?

Brauntae johnson: that's just what i do really.

The coaches just let me play.

They trusted me, put the ball in my hands.

And that's really all.

They're just letting me play."narr: yeah, and at just 15 years old, he's playing at an extremely high level.

Through the first seven games of his high school hoops career, johnson is leadnig north side in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals with averages of 16 points, 8 boards, 4 dimes and two thefts per contest...johnson: "i can think good.

I can put us in the right situation.

I'm a good rebounder, passer.

I can really do everything.

Whatever the team needs me to do, i can do it."gary andrews: "i think the sky's the limit.

I think he can be as good as anybody that's ever been here at north side.

I think he can play in the big ten, big-time college basketball, and after that, who knows?"narr: but what's scary is... basketball might not even be brauntae's best sport...?nat pop - announcer: in the flat, it's the freshman tae johnson... tae johnson... t-d.?mike brevard: "i mean, he was tearing guys up during the season.

Colleges would contact me... 'hey who's number 21?'

I'm like 'aw that's tae johnson.

He's a freshman.'

And everybody's eyes kinda get big like, 'freshman?!'"narr: yeah, as a freshman on the football field, johnson caught for nearly 600 yards and seven tochdowns in one of the state's toughest conferences.

So that begs the question..

Which sport suits braunate best?johnson: "i don't really look into that.

I just like both sports, so i just play both of them.

I don't really look into which one i'm better at until i have to choose."

Narr: that decision is still a few years away.

For now, johnson is focused on his freshman year at north side.

One semester in, tae tae's already turned plenty of heads.

And he's just getting started.
