Some big upgrades are coming to the southwest oregon regional airport in coos county -- as crews continue to work on their new on-site fire and rescue station.

Trt: 1:44 00:00 take lower it been a busy year so far for the staff at the southwest oregon regional airport in north bend& as construction for their brand-new fire and rescue station continues.

Bob hood is the airport operation manager& but he also one of six on- site firefighters they have on staff.

He says their new facility will have four new truck bays, living quarters and an equiptment room -- everything they need to do their job to the best of their abilities.?we move about the field to do the coverage that we need.

But it will be nice to have all out equipment in one area?

Airport chairwoman helen mineau tells me they have been looking to build a new station for a while now.

She says the current one does not fully support the new equiptment theye had to purchase in the last few years.

We got a grant to replace those.

Once we got those we realized we needed a bigger facility because theye much bigger?

Plus -- hood says the old station is on it last leg.

Hood says it has been around since the 1940s and as you can see, it starting to show its age??uh you know the walls are cracking, it a dungeon?

The project is being funded by a 6.5 million dollar grant from the federal government.

Hood says they will begin demolition on the old building next month& and they hope to be moved into their new facility by this july.

But he says that day couldn come soon enough.?wee super excited.
