Orchard Knob fatal wreck

A 79 year old man died in a crash involving a vehicle that hit a Bobcat and 5 other vehicles this afternoon in Orchard Knob.

A 79 year old driver was killed this afternoon after crashing into a bobcat utility vehicle on the corner of orchard knob and union avenue.

Witnesses say the car sped through the intersection and crashed into the bobcat where construction crews were working.

That's when the car burst into flames.

Chattanooga police say five other cars were also struck before the p-t cruiser hit the bobcat.

A witness who worked at a nearby school says he helped put out the car's flames, and tried to free the victim from the car.

"i was in the boarding school and i heard the boom, and then i came outside and they ended up the guy had hit the bobcat and hit the end of it and then hit the wall and then the car had caught on fire and we ended up spraying it and putting it out, trying to get him out of the car.

Couldn't get him out, and then i guess at that time he had passed along."
