New at 5- to catch up from covid setbacks scottsboro city schools is launching a summer learning program for students.

Waay 31's sierra phillips is just outside the district office.

She learned more about who qualifies for this program.

Students who are behind the most will be eligible for this new program based on some.

Its based on some end of the year tests.

The four week program will run like a normal school day with some added fun activities.

There will be about 100 kids.

Teachers tell me they saw a real setback because of the coronavirus.

Last school year kids missed 9 weeks of class which one caldwell first grade teacher tells me set her students behind.

When we're missing part of our footer, which came from kindergarten, we have to go back and make sure all that's in place.

We've had to go back, learn kindergarten skills and then start building on 1st grade."

The superintendent added that this program, among others, will be funded from 1.7 million dollars in federal funding.

The program will continue for at least 3 summers.
