From rupp arena it was a clash of program histories in the kentucky sweet 16's here up rupp arena.

Henderson county was making it's 16th appearance in the state tournament, while apollo was ending a quarter century drought.

The e-gals rode a wave of good vibes into rupp arena.

However henderson county races out to a 16-6 lead on the outside shooting of kaytlan kemp, sadie wurth and grace risely.

Nat sound amber dunn would finally end that drought and kick off a 4-0 mini- run.

Nat sound however jarie thomas' rebound and putback puts henderson county up 18-10 after one.

Nat sound apollo shows signs of life in the second quarter, as shelbie beatty leads the charge, opening the second quarter on a 7-2 run.

The e-gals cut the deficit to 20-17.

Nat sound however sadie wurth puts the brakes on the e-gal run with this triple, sending henderson county to the locker room up 26-17.

Nat sound the second half opens with the lady colonels inside game determined to end the game quickly.

And henderson county's lead is up to 15 points.

Nat sound shelbie beatty would once again attempt to rally apollo back in the game.

Nat sound but just before the buzzer, sadie wurth's tough take in traffic gives the lady colonels a 36-23 lead after 3.

Nat sound determined to have one more moment, apollo comes out firing from long range.

Amber dunn and kassidy daugherty hit back to back triples, and the e-gals are back within shouting distance.

Nat sound however jarie thomas ends any hope of an apollo comeback with a pair of inside baskets.

And henderson county is on it's way to the kentucky elite eight, winning 55-31.

Nat sound i thought we wanted to get off to a good start.

In the tournament, you always want to get off to a good start and try to get a lead one somebody.

I thought we did a great job of doing that.

We pressed them into a full court game a little bit.

Turned them over some.

Kids played hard.

We beat this team earlier in the season, but you've still got to go out and play the game.

I wished we could have finished a little more around the basket, but that's the game.

That's the game.

But i love my kids.

I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Every senior.

They've meant so much to this program over the past four years.

Wins and losses come and go, but the memories that we have and this run that we've been on is something that will stay with me forever.

So while the lady colonels head off to the elite eight, it is the end of the road for an apollo squad that exceeded a lot of people's expectations just to get here.

And they certainly lived up to the title of region 3 champion.
