$8M settlement reached in California teen's fatal shooting by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy

The parents of a teen who was killed by police in California will receive an eight-million-dollar settlement.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved the settlement for the parents of Andrés Guardado.

In June of 2020, the 18-year-old was shot five times in the back by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, Miguel Vega.

Andres Guardado’s death was ruled a homicide in January of 2021.

Guardado’s family released a statement saying in part that peace and justice will only come once Vega is held criminally responsible for Andres Guardado's death.
