Airnow Data, the mobile app analytics, optimization and market research platform, has shared statistics around the monster-sized amount of app downloads that HBO Max has experienced since the launch of the Godzilla vs. Kong movie on the platform. The HBO Max app, which is the exclusive streaming home of the movie Godzilla vs. Kong in the US for the first 30 days of the film’s release - the month of April 2021 - was downloaded 3.15 million times across all devices  - 2.6 million times on iOS devices and 548,600 on Android devices. The movie has grossed an estimated $357 million worldwide as of April 11, 2021 and gives a glimpse to what the future cinematic release landscape may look like, according to Airnow Data. “With many still unable or unwilling to visit a movie theater at this point in the pandemic, the decision to release new movies on the HBO Max app has really paid off,” said Tim Armes, client services director at Airnow Data in a statement. “Audiences are clamoring for new content - and with such a tremendous number of new downloads related to this movie, HBO Max will have a nice bump in subscriber numbers as a result. It’s easy to see them retaining those new subscribers because of the additional new movies that will launch on the app throughout the year,” he added. The HBO Max app saw over a 400% increase in downloads and ranked as the top downloaded app on iOS and as the third most downloaded on Android for the first week since the movie’s launch.
