Barenboim, Awwad to be conferred with Indira Gandhi Peace Prize

Daniel Barenboim and Ali Abu Awwad have been awarded the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for their efforts towards a non-violent resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Barenboim, a distinguished classical pianist and conductor, is known for using music to foster harmony in West Asia. Awwad, a Palestinian peace activist, co-founded the initiative called Roots and the Palestinian non-violence movement called Taghyeer. "Taghyeer, a mass independent movement, is dedicated to the social development needs of the Palestinians and to forge a non-violent path to end the Occupation," the statement said.
