(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Doha: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) yesterday held an expanded meeting to review the institutional performance, verify the smooth running of business, and ensure the achievement of the goals and plans included in the corporation's general strategy. The meeting, which was held via video conference technology, was chaired by President of Kahramaa Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, in the presence and participation of directors of affairs and departments and heads of departments. He praised the efforts made by all employees in the organisation to improve the level of services provided, and praised the tangible progress towards achieving Kahramaa's vision and goals, and ensuring an effective and influential presence at all levels. The meeting reviewed the promising achievements of Kahramaa during the first quarter of this year, including the continuation of work on installing smart meters, following up on its work, evaluating the results and incoming data, and working to improve and develop the infrastructure of electric vehicle charging stations, through the implementation of a strategic project to install 100 charging stations for electric cars in Qatar, and this project is expected to reduce harmful carbon emissions by at least 7 percent of total emissions until 2022. During the first quarter of the year, Kahramaa also signed an agreement with the Japanese company Marubeni to create a smart platform for the efficient use of electricity and water, and this coincided with the launch of the national initiative to reduce consumption in the residential sector by 5 percent, and the smart platform integrates with this initiative to measure and evaluate the consumption behavior of individuals, which will contribute In achieving a better understanding of consumption patterns and means of awareness-raising and rationalization. The meeting also touched on the institutions achievements at the community level, as Kahramaa participated in many national initiatives aimed at awareness and community development, such as the initiative to plant 10,000 trees, celebrate Earth Hour and World Water Day, train employees of the National Service Academy, and provide remote workshops for government schools. In addition to Kahramaa's participation in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) competition. The meeting organizers also emphasised the outstanding performance of the corporation to face the pandemic, and the great efforts made to avoid any delay or regression in the progress of projects and operational processes.
