*DUBAI, UAE / ACCESSWIRE / November 30, 2023 / *Ahead of COP28, Prototypes for Humanity, a yearly programme and assembly of the best academic innovations from around the world, opens its 2023 edition in Dubai to showcase the unwavering potential of academia to solve complex problems - including those prioritized on COP's very agenda.

The breadth of the solutions showcased in Dubai, from 28 to 30 November in Emirates Towers, reflects Prototypes for Humanity's growing reach and community: the programme engaged with thousands of students and professors across 710 universities in 108 countries and within 200 different research fields this year. The resulting 100 shortlisted projects were developed by graduates hailing from 92 universities across 46 countries - who will be present at the exhibition in Dubai, alongside supervising professors, and team members.

Besides celebrating cutting edge solutions for society and the planet, the initiative is launching a pioneering programme to channel the ingenuity and entrepreneurial drive from its community for the creation of viable ventures. The intended outcome is projects that deliver tangible solutions for the planet and society, while adhering to industry and investment best-practices.
This programme, dedicated to support innovators and take projects to market, will include workshops and industry led meetings, to enable venture building experts and industry leaders to investigate collaboration schemes and leverage Dubai's infrastructure to pilot and scale projects to the next level.

In addition, the programme will include special sessions for professors from across the world, aimed at finding research synergies across multiples disciplines and countries.
Prototypes for Humanity is held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, and member of the Dubai Council, with Dubai Future Foundation as a lead partner, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority as strategic partner and supported by Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
Dubai Future Foundation's CEO, H.E. Khalfan Belhoul comments: "Prototypes for Humanity's community embodies key components of the future-looking ecosystem we nurture: innovation, talent, and education. By supporting these innovators, we renew our commitment towards a more prosperous planet and society - and Dubai's vibrant economy and infrastructure can only accelerate that process. Our mandate to design Dubai's future is entwined with positive impact, entrepreneurial spirit and global prosperity, and Prototypes for Humanity's is a unique platform for achieving that."

This year's schedule of events will culminate with a closing ceremony at COP28's Impact Hub which will include the announcement of Prototypes for Humanity Awards 2023, presenting $100,000 in prizes to winning projects in 5 categories reflecting COP 28 priorities: ‘Nature, Food and Water systems', ‘Health, Relief and Safety', ‘Energy, Efficiency and Waste', ‘Education, Equality and Communities' and ‘Data Science and AI-enabled Solutions'.
Commenting on the programme, Tadeu Baldani Caravieri, Director of Prototypes for Humanity, says: "As the world turns to innovation to accelerate transition towards net-zero, university research and talent take centre stage. Academia has historically been a catalyser for progress, and its ability to identify, break down and solve problems, within an independent environment, makes it an incredibly necessary agent for change. While the global sustainability agenda is set by pledges and agreements across nations and organisations, like those underway at the upcoming COP28, the path to such goals needs to be built by new technologies - and that is the part of the puzzle Prototypes for Humanity's community excels at."

The exhibition is open to the public on 29 and 30 November at The Boulevard at Emirates Towers. The 100 shortlisted submissions introduced as part of the 2023 Prototypes for Humanity programme include:

• Satellite monitoring to prevent disasters in mining facilities (University of Oxford, UK)
