Ecuador first-round vote shows economy and violence are top concerns

Leftist Luisa Gonzalez and banana industry heir Daniel Noboa will compete in a runoff for the presidency of Ecuador in October. Gonzalez, a protege of former President Rafael Correa, won 33% support, while Noboa, the son of a prominent businessman, secured a surprise second-place finish with 24%. The election has been overshadowed by the assassination of anti-corruption candidate Fernando Villavicencio.
