Labor's Bill Shorten Addresses Australian Public After Federal Election Called

Leader of the Opposition and the Labor Party Bill Shorten issued an address on Thursday, April 11, following Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s decision to call a federal election for May 18.“Australians face a real and vital choice at this election,” Shorten said in the speech given from a suburban backyard in Mitcham, Victoria, on Thursday afternoon.

The address focused on healthcare, wage increases, tax reform, and climate change.Earlier that day, Morrison travelled to Government House in Canberra to advise Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove that a federal election should be held on May 18.

Cosgrove had “no objection” to the date.
