Firefighters Rescue People Trapped in Kennedy Center Elevator
Firefighters rescued three people trapped in an elevator at the Kennedy Center in Washington on Tuesday, April 16.
A rescue crew used a hauling system called an Arizona Vortex to lift each person up the elevator shaft.
The elevator stalled about 30 feet below the center’s Terrace Level, a department spokesperson told the Washington Post.
Two firefighters rappelled down the shaft to the stranded elevator.
Footage of the rescue posted to the DC Fire and EMS Twitter account shows firefighters winching one of the people to safety.
