Man arrested for assault after firing weapon

Spokane police say a man fired a gun at two strangers in riverfront park early this morning sending them running for cover.

Our kyle simchuk joins us now with the details that led up to that shooting, kyle?

Police tell us this was a random attack... The two victims took cover behind a garbage can.

Even though the suspect, detrick johnson fired his revolver directly at them, no one was injured.

Johnson, who turned 18 a few months ago appeared in court this afternoon.

Police say around 12-30 this morning, the two victims crashed on lime scooters near the park and johnson walked up to them saying nonsensical things.

Police say he pulled a revolver from his coat and fired into the air, then pointed the gun at the two men and fired again.

The victims tried to chase johnson but lost him near the big red wagon.

A person charging lime scooters saw the shooting and called police with johnson's description -- he was stopped by an officer on the washington street bridge by the tunnel.

Johnson told police he was running because people were chasing him.

Officers found a handgun just north of the washington street tunnel.

The 18 year old is charged with two counts of 1st degree assault.
