A man is recovering after being stabbed and beaten inside his home in the village of Clinton.

It's 6:5 .... time for the morning sprint... as our team gets you started with more local news.

We start this morning with breaking news overnight... a man is recovering at mercy hospital after being stabbed and beaten in his home in the village of clinton.

Police there were called to milwaukee street last night ... where they found an 18-year-old man who was stabbed and beaten over the head with a gun.

The victim says two masked men forced their way into his home... but both ran away before police got there.

Clinton police are still looking for the two men.

Today marks one year since jayme closs was kidnapped... after jake patterson shot and killed her parents in their barron county home.

Closs was found 88 days later... after escaping from patterson's cabin in douglas county... where he held her against her will.

Jake patterson will spend the rest of his life in prison... with no possibility of parole.

A woman accused of shooting and killing a man in sauk county is being held on a half million dollar cash bond.

She was in court yesterday.

Christopher lytle's body was found in a field two and a half weeks after he was killed.

Prosecutors say amber lundgren shot lytle in the back of the head while he was on his knees... facing away from her.

But lundgren says she was acting in self defense.

Madison police are looking for a suspicious person this morning... who they say followed a 12- year-old girl in his car.

Just before 2:30 yesterday... a man in his 40sstopped on olin avenue near the goodman pool and asked the girl where the nearest dog park was.

The girl pointed and kept walking... but police say the man kept driving along, shadowing her.

Police say he asked questions about where she was coming from and going to... and then left.

The girl made it home safely.

Assistant police chief vic wahl will continue serving as madison's interim chief as the police and fire commisison begin the search for a permanent replacement.

The five board members unanimously voted to name wahl acting chief ... he had already been performing the duties since former chief koval retired two weeks ago.

Wahl says he is not considering applying for the permanent chief position just in to the channel 3000 alert center ... russia says it will become a power broker between the syrian and turkish governments.

Meanwhile vice president mike pence is heading to turkey... as the white house tries to contain the fallout from president trump's decision.

The president leveled new sanctions against turkey... and demanded an end to military actions against the kurds.

There are five more depositions scheduled for this week in the impeachment inquiry of president trump... house intelligence committee chairman adam schiff says it might not be necessary to reveal the whistleblower's identity... and congress says they're doing everything in their power not to call them in to testify.

President trump says they must be named.

12 democratic candidates for president will take the stage in ohio tonight for their fourth debate.

That's the largest debate ever -- and a new poll from politico shows 63 percent of democratic primary voters say that's too many candidates.

Bernie sanders will be one of those candidates debating tonight ... despite recently suffering a heart attack.

The debate starts at 7 tonight.

Sun prairie is doubling its number of polling places this year.

Last year people were waiting in line for up to two hours to vote, which the city says is unacceptable.

By doubling up from four to eight polling locations... they're hoping to encourage more people to exercise their right to vote.

Taco bell is recalling more than 2 million pounds of its seasoned ground beef from its stores that might have metal shavings in it.

The u-s department of agriculture says the recall comes from a prep center in ohio... the company found out about the issue after a customer reported finding metal in their item... so far there have been no reports of illness or injuries from the beef.

The packers are waking up at the top of the n-f-c north ... after eeking out a close win on 'monday night football' over the detroit lions.
