(SOUNDBITE) (English) WALES COACH, WARREN GATLAND, SAYING: "You have to take your hat off to France, I thought they were excellent today and very, very unlucky.

They've definitely improved since the Six Nations as a side.

But the message was at half time that we need to score first and we'll get off some opportunities, it'll come.

Credit to these players, I'm really proud of the fact that they just don't give up, they never give up, even when they're under a bit of pressure, they just keep fighting and finding a way to get a result and obviously the red card was very significant, but that sometimes galvanises teams as well." 2.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) WALES COACH, WARREN GATLAND, SAYING: "I think the officials dealt with it appropriately and and I don't think anyone could complain about that.

I think the right decision was made and unfortunately that's what rugby's about, it's heat of the moment stuff and he just made an error of judgement.

But when you've got a lot of testosterone involved in pretty high intensive games that's sometimes going to happen and he's made a poor decision." 4.

WHITE FLASH 5.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) FRANCE HEAD COACH JACQUES BRUNEL, SPEAKING ABOUT THE RED CARD, SAYING: "The card, I don't question it.

The images are clear, it's a reflex, he doesn't see him.

Nevertheless, there is contact with the face.

So I don't have any problem with this decision.

I didn't always agree with other decisions." STORY: Wales coach Warren Gatland may have been preparing his farewell speech as Wales trailed France with six minutes left in their World Cup quarter-final but instead he can now work on his semi-final pep-talk against South Africa after his team snatched a thrilling victory on Sunday (October 20).

Gatland is stepping down following the World Cup after 12 years in charge and would have been hugely frustrated if his last game had been a defeat and a somewhat limp performance against a French team reduced to 14 men for the last 30 minutes.

Gatland spoke after Ross Moriarty's converted 74th-dramatic try secured a slim 20-19 victory, praising France for their performance and agreeing with the red card issued to France's lock Sebastien Vamihaamahina for elbowing Aaron Wainwright in the face.

French coach Jacques Brunel said Vamihaamahina deserved to be sent off, although he said the incident was a reflex action.
