Madison-area city crews worked through the night to clear out snow and put sand down in residential areas.

It's 6:5 ... time for the morning sprint --to get you out the door with everything you need to know on your friday.

We start with breaking news... a 7-year-old girl is in the hospital this morning after being shot while trick or treating in chicago.

Police say the intended target of the shooting was a 31-year- old man.

A group of at least three people were chasing after him when they started shooting.

The girl is still in the hospital this morning ... but her condition hasn't been released.

Police are still trying to find the suspects.

Kids in chicago will be back in school this morning for the first time in almost two weeks today.

It comes after the teachers strike there ended with a tentative agreement between the union and the city.

25-thousand teachers had been on strike for 11 school days.

The new contract with teachers will last for five years and includes limits on class sizes and promises to have nurses and social workers in every school.

Also breaking overnight... more evacuations are being ordered in california as a new wild fire breaks out.

Flames could be seen for miles near santa paula ... outside of los angeles.

The fire has already spread to 7-thousand acres ... with zero percent containment overnight.

This comes as crews start to get a handle on other wildfires across the state ... as winds start to die down.

Today: stly cloudy and continued cold with light rain and snow showers in the afternoon.

High: 37 wind: sw 8-15 mph tonight: mostly cloudy and not as cold with a chance of flurries.

Low: 28 our winter weather is just starting ... and it's already breaking records.

Wednesday night into yesterday ... we saw a total of 5-point-1 inches of snow in madison.

That brought our total for the week up to 8-point-1 inches ... almost 3 inches more than the old record for total snow in october.

A teenager is facing o-w-i charges after authorities say he crashed a stolen car ... sending at least 5 people to the hospital.

The dane county sheriff's office says 17-year-old jakel jones of fitchburg was driving a stolen car from stoughton on highway 51 when he lost control during the snow yesterday ... and ended up in oncoming traffic and hitting a mini-van head-on.

The area police chief put on leave after being charged with sexual assault and theft -- is scheduled to make his first appearance in court today.

Richland center police chief lucas clements faces misdemeanor counts of 4th degree sexual assault and theft... after a bartender says he touched her inappropriately and stole her tips.

Clements denied some of the contact ... but claimed other parts were mutual.

Governor evers is making sure the lives lost on 9-11 are never forgotten.

He signed a bill in kewaskum ... establishing the 9-11 memorial highway.

It's a portion of state highway 28 ... between i-41 in dodge county ... and highway 144 in washington county.

The renaming of the highway comes as a 9-11 memorial education center is being built in kewaskum.

Sun prairie's only post office will soon be designated as the 'fire captain cory barr post office'... to honor the fallen firefighter.

President trump signed legislation approving the name change just yesterday.

The legislation to rename the post office was introduced by senators ron johnson and tammy baldwin.... and the entire wisconsin congressional delegation... led by congressman mark pocan.

Democratic house leaders say they hope to hold public impeachment hearings "soon."

A resolution passed that outlines the rules going forward.

Republicans denounced the vote, but were buoyed by testimony from former white house aide tim morrison... who said he was not concerned anything illegal was discussed between president trump and ukraine's president.

The east side is getting ready to host a big celebration this afternoon.

That's when the fully remodeled garver feed mill will host its open house.

This project has been a long time coming--- after two decades of neglect and decay, the mill has been remodeled and re-energized... with eleven local tenants.

Ian's pizza and calliope ice cream opened earlier this summer... and this afternoon, the final four businesses--- surya cafe, kosa wellness spa, perennial yoga, and ledger coffee will officially open their doors.

At the open house... garver's tenants will show off their products and services, offer special deals, and give away samples.

The event is free... but you need to pre- register.

The westbound beltline is tapping the brakes near stoughton road and clearing after monona drive, elsewhere is at the posted speed limit.

Small lines on the intersections on john nolen with no issues heading downtown at this time.

And there's a disabled vehicle on the southbound interstate between janesville and beloit blocking the right shoulder, expect to tap the brakes near the incident.
