Christa coffey is one of this year's twelve women being honored.

As news 18's trevor peters explains, coffey is now helping implement what she did in tippecanoe county across the state.

"it's an incredible honor."

Now, she's a recipient herself.

"to be a part of the class that is being recognized is awe- inspiring."

Coffey moved to lafayette in 1989 and started her career with county government as a bailiff in 1997.

In her two terms as county clerk, coffey was responsible for administering official court records and handling millions of dollars in filing fees.

She also led the effort to turn more than 20 years of paper documents into electronic files.

That's something she now is implementing across the state in her new role with the indiana supreme court.

"that's kind of an ironic twist that, a system that i helped convert our courts to, i'm now helping counties across the state as they change to that system.

Her new job takes her to indianapolis every day, but it was important to her to keep tippecanoe county her home.

"so much has changed.

When i came 30 years ago, you got off the interstate and there was mcdonalds, a couple of gas stations, and maybe a hotel and now look at it.

26 is just one continuous link to the city.

I think people are finding out that tippecanoe county is a good place to be, and they want to be here as part of that.

Trevor peters news 18" the 2020 salute to women ceremony is tomorrow at the trails banquet facility in west lafayette.
