Mobile bike repair deemed essential

When governor tim walz issued his initial stay at home order over two weeks ago, there were surprises.

Businesses some of us thought were essential, were not.

There were, though, businesses deemed essential that surprised us too.

Kimt news three's george mallet joins us live with a look at one essential business here in rochester.

A friend of mine is binge watching the big bang theory.

This reporter is spending a lot of time on his bicycle.

But bicycle chains wear out, tires go flat and gear clusters get weird.

That makes my bike guy essential!

Charly tri doesn't sleep in.

This week an early morning found my bike guy's van already parked at dan harke's home in northeast rochester.

Dan harke:he comes here.

The price is very competitive.

And my bikes done in like an hour.

Charly is busy every sprin?

Usually booking appointments three days out.

In this time of physical distancing, though, my bike guy is booked a full two weeks out.

Charly tri: i've been slammed.

I'm the to go version of a bike shop right now.

He's assiduous about going over the bikes with disinfectant wipe?

And gets bikes in and out of an owners garage without having any contact with the client.

My bike guy comes under the heading of an essential business, for which dan harke is thankful.

This mayo clinic employee needs his bike time.

Harke: currently, it is a true stress relief.

With work being crazy and these trying times, it's really nice to get out there, either on the roads or the trail and really just release some stress.

Speaking first han?

Charly is unfailingly easy to deal with.

When a tire he'd replaced went flat a few days later.

He came back and fixed it for free.

And his work habits are pandemic perfect.

My service is so convenient, but at the same time with the pandemic going on, it's extremely conducive to social distancing and getting people on the road without having them have to go out in the public.

And for those of us whose legs remain in motion as we admire each blossom and bird on the trails of rocheste?

And my bike guy bills you by email.

And you pay the bill online.

So there is no contact on that front either.

My bike guy was pandemic perfect even before a pandemic.
