Neighbors react to hours-long standoff in Eugene

Scott Edward Gardner, 53, was shot by police after allegedly firing a rifle following a standoff.

After 12 hours of negotiating with a barricaded subject in south eugene... the edgewood townhouse community is still processing what happened monday.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is live in the 100 block of west brook way with how this standoff ended.

Matt and renee the scene for seven tense hours.

I was here when multiple rounds of gunfire started going off from the barricaded subject.

Police told me to take shelter so i did in a nearby home where i was told to stay there for hours.

It all ended around midnight when the subject came out of the townhome with a rifle and police shot him... and he was then transported to a local hospital.

The video you are looking at now is the scene yesterday during the standoff.

This all began around noon here at the edgewood townhouses in south eugene.

Police responded to man with a rifle inside a family members home.

The stand off continued into the night and ended after 12 hours.

This new video is the scene today... glass is still scattered on the ground from blown out windows that are now covered with tarps.

Pieces of the door remain after being blown out.

Residents i spoke with say that explosion rattled walls and set off car alarms. i didn't realize the reason, it was such a loud explosion and at different varies of time hearing the rifle shots, sometimes in clusters and we didn't know what was really happening..

Eugene police chief chris skinner said in a statement that this isn the outcome anyone wanted but he is glad no one else was hurt during the stand off.

Matt and renee-- the suspects condition is unknown at this time.

Police say the investigation is still on going.
