As the coronavirus keeps spreading at meat plants, some are looking to other means for their protein.

Coronavirus cases are widespread in packing plants across the country.

Shoppers are starting to worry about the supply and safety of their favorite cuts of meat.

Now they're turning to a midwest tradition for help.

Kimt news 3's nick kruszalnicki is live to explain.

Nick?

George?

People are turning to places like ventura locker in order to get their favorite cuts of steak and pork.

Earlier this afternoon i spoke to jeremy moorehead, who owns ventura locker.

He tells me this is usually a slow time of year for them, but with the outbreak of covi?19, the phones have been ringing no?stop.

His customers are looking to stock up, buying half and whole hogs as well as quarters and halves of beef.

Morehead says another reason mea?

Eaters are chosing to buy local, is because they know exactly where their we know the local farmers around that raise them and we kind of put them together.

We'll either take orders here or get a hold of the farmer and bring the animals in or get them right in touch with the farmers to arrange it.

He also told me local farmers are appreciative of the local business?

With many sale barns closed, it's getting harder to sell cattle on the market.

Live in ventura, thanks nick.

Iowa governor kim reynolds said today iowa's meat packing plants will continue to stay open?

Because shutting them down would be too hard on farmers and strain the food supply./// a third local medical institution
