Attorney general letitia james hosted a teleconference on coronavirus- related scams. news channel 2's caitlin irla joins us live here in the studio to tell us what we should look out and how we can protect ourselves.

Good evening jason, it's a time of uncertainty in our country... and scammers are taking advantage of that.

New scams are popping up daily, everything from fraudulent robocalls...to text messages touting a covid-19 vaccine.

And, with so many people home using the internet to connect with their loved ones, online scams have become very popular amongst scammers and hackers.

Congressman anthony brindisi says google blocks more than 100 million phishing emails each day related to coronavirus.

That's why he and the attorney general held this teleconference tonight.

They want you to be on the lookout for covid-19 related scams... and these scams are not limited to technology... "individuals knocking on doors pretending to be representatives from the centers for disease control and offering tests for covid-19 for a fee.

Please know that covid-19 is free, the recently cares act guarantees free covid-19 testing for all including individuals who have private insurance, no one should be offering a test for payment, most testing sites require that you have an appointment but please do not pay for any covid-19 testing."

It's also important to remember that the government would never knock on your door or call you and ask for your personal information including your social security information or bank account information... the attorney general also says she has received more than 7 thousand complaints about price gouging, and since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, her office has issued more than 14 hundred cease and desist orders to businesses across the state.

Jason back to you.
