I spoke to one mom who says thanks to these meals her kids wont go hungry.

But because this brown bag reminds them of school.

The meals are one less thing on her plate.

Mom: "it's super easy that while i'm working.

You know trying to work from home, help the kids with their distance learning, trying to get my work done and just do the daily things this really makes it easy that i don't have to worry about what's for breakfast or lunch while trying to get everything else done.

The school lunch program keeps kids bellies full so they can concentrate on school.

Student are required to eat the meals on campus.

With schools being closed the usda gave the school districts the okay?

To bag up these meals and distribute them.

Come) oversees this program at the austin public school district.

"we are always concerns what happens when summer comes.

And they dont have access to good nutrition.

So we feel very responsible to make sure that they are getting that nutrition.

With this announcement weikum and her team are now making plans for the summer lunch program.

She anticipates with unemployment numbers on the rise they could each meal cost the school district roughly four dollars.

Weikum says the u.s department of agriculture pays them back every single penny they spend.

Meals are required to meet nutrition standards for reimbursement.
