New Safer At Home Order

With the new amendments to Alabama's Safer At Home order, schools can open for their summer programs and entertainment venues are back open for business.

Reopen starting june 1st.

Waay 31's will robinson-smith joins us live from grissom high school in huntsville - one of the many schools across the state allowed to reopen in just over a week.

He's been combing through the safer at home order - and joins us with a breakdown on what it says for schools.

Starting tomorrow at 5 p.m., group sports can start some activities again.

But kids can't return to classes on campus until june 1st.

According to the health order - once students are back in class - schools need to maintain social distancing whenever possible.

They also need to regularly disinfect items and surfaces.

Finally - school employees are encouraged to wear a mask or some sort of face covering whenever possible.

Face coverings are also necessary for players, coaches and officials who start up athletic activities before classes resume.

Reopening alabama only works if we all cooperate.

We are moving to reopen these things, but it has to be done safely.

This is still a "safer-at- home" order.

Many systems said previously that they plan on sticking with a virtual learning plan for the summer as they decide what to do for the fall.

The health order says school districts are encouraged to implement additional safety measures - on top of the ones we've outlined here.
