Right now medford fire rescue is investigating what caused the fire.

Newswatch 12's alicia rubin spoke with firefighters who say they expect to continue to see smoke today and this evening.

Alicia says: "smoke in the valley is never good news today i talked to one of the chief firefighters here on the scene about how long we can expect this smoke to linger."

Rogue valley residents woke up this morning to smoke-filled skies.

Kip says: "you can see the smoke from everywhere in the valley it looks bad" looks can be deceiving, the fire was under control by 8 o'clock this morning but by then the smoke had already started to settle -- an unwelcome sight and smell this early into fire season.

Kip says: "none of us want to see smoke in the valley especiallyn the last few years the smokes really been a problem" there's also a new concern this year with covid-19.

The smoke could compromise the lung health for the elderly and those with respiratory conditions.

Covid-19 symptoms could also be mistaken for irritation caused by smoke.

Coughing, trouble breathing, headaches and chest pains can be cause by both wildfire smoke and covid-19.

Kip says: "lucky thing about this one is after today we don't expect much smoke" while this fire should stop producing smoke after today, the lingering haze could last until we see rain.
