Economy is slowly reopening and many people are finally returning to work.

However, some families are still struggling financially.

Well the salvation army is now stepping up to help pay for rent and utility bills for those in need... "if you're in need please reach out don't feel like you're alone and no one is there for you."

Major ray morton with the salvation army in tupelo says donations from tva and tom bigbee are set to help those in need avoid eviction or power cut offs "we're doing everything we can in the community to make sure that people who are in need can find a place that maybe they can get some assistance."

Major morton says this is phase two of the salvation army's coronavirus relief.

He says they aim to help those in need who have not yet received any help.

"we really want to encourage people who haven't received assistance before don't be afraid to ask for help."

However, he also says those who have received assistance in the past can also apply..

Major morton says the best way to apply for the financial assistance is by phone.

"i don't want people to sacrifice social distancing to feel like they're going to be seen better if they come in person, the goal is to make a phone call leave a message, whatever it takes..."
