Message from local leaders-- the rallying cries of peaceful protesters ringing throughout evansville all week.

From the civic center to the riverfront with even more protests planned for the weekend.

City officials addressing their plan today and the history of injustices in evansville.

"let's make it clear e hasn't always been for everyone.

And it's not always today -- but we're striving for it.

And sadly, vestiges from the past still exist."

But this moment must be fruitful and without distraction."

And i have nothing but the full faith and confidence in the police department to do the right thing."

And as you can see city officials have set up barricades outside the civic center just in case things get a little unruly.

"these precautions are not cause for panic.

But to be abundantly cautious in making preparations for those who choose not to follow our pleas for peaceful protesting."

This is not the time to riot this is the time to be about action through meaningful policy."

And city leaders -- adamant they are on the side of justice and peace.

"yes, black lives matter.

And as your city council president, feel confident in knowing that this city council is working on your behalf.

So that every resident truly believes this city is for them."

And from sidewalk chalk outside the ford center and the protest at the four freedoms monument itl be a busy saturday in evansville for those wanting to make their voices heard.
