Over a thousand people gathered outside of Deady Hall on the University of Oregon campus.

We've seen hundreds and thousands of people gather this past week.

And organizers tell us they have no plans of slowing down in the days to come.

We have team coverage for you tonight.

Our reporters have been following this protest all day long.

We begin with kezi 9 news reporter connor mccarthy-- who tells us more about the lesson protesters got on the history of racism in the city -- connor?

Jillian-- protests started at the free speech plaza in downtown eugene.

They then marched here to deady hall on the university of oregon campus where that teach-in was held.

Organizers hoped to teach protesters some of the racist history of oregon.

Protesters chose to stop at deady hall because the buidling is name after matthew deady.

He was oregon's first state supreme court justice but also someone who advocate for racist policies like banning african americans from moving to the state.

These were called black exclusion laws that were passed in the 1800's back when oregon was just a territory.

One u o professor says there have been many more incidents since then.

"young black activists organized because they were tired of seeing other young black people being gunned down in the street.

That movement and other movements have laid the foundation for what we are seeing nationally."

In 2017-- the university of oregon student body tried to get administration to change the name of deady hall but president michael schill declined.

Protesters tell me to expect more protests throughout the week as they fight to end systemic racism and police brutality.
