That law is the focus of cricitism across the state - as more cities and counties considering removing confederate monuments.

Waay 31's sophia borrelli spoke with a state lawmaker about whether he plans to challenge it.

I spoke with representative mike ball who says he was one of two republican in the legislature who voted against the law when it was passed in 2017.

Rep.

Mike ball, alabama house of representatives : "i just think that law is bad policy."

Representative mike ball says he didn't agree with the act back when it was voted on in 2017.

Rep.

Mike ball, alabama house of representatives : "i couldn't see a good reason why the state should tell cities and counties who they could and could not commemorate on their own property."

He says now he would support legislature to change that act.

Mike ball, alabama house of representatives : "i just thought that local communities should be able to decide for themselves."

Sophia looklive: i asked representative ball if he knew of a timeline for when the madison county commission could receive their answer and he said he did not know.
