Thai airport re-opens for first time since Covid-19 lockdown started

Footage shows Ranong Airport in southern Thailand which re-opened this week following three months of coronavirus closure.

The facility was closed towards the end of March when Covid-19 was reaching its peak in Thailand and officials closed the borders.

However, with no new locally transmitted cases of the virus for almost a month, domestic flights from the airport restarted on Tuesday (June 16).

The airport director Preeda Chauykong said staff were following strict measure issued by the Thai Aviation Authority to prevent any further outbreaks of the virus.

He said: "We believe that allowing passenger travel will boost the economy but we also must follow strict rules.

"We have set up checkpoints at every entrance and exit and we have deployed many sanitising stations across the building, while the passengers are also ordered to wear a face mask all the time."
