A police officer helped make a stunning rescue today in montgomery county.

According to the fire department...he called in a fire at a home on bridgett drive in mount sterling...before 2 p-m.

Firefighters say a charcoal grill was lit on the back porch.

Embers got on a tarp...caught the deck on fire...then the whole house.

That police officer found the fire...went in and got a woman in her 60s into her wheelchair...but by that time...fire blocked them in.

The officer climbed out of a window and then firefighters used a ladder to get the woman out the window as well.

She was taken to u-k hospital with life- threatening injuries.
