A Chico-based business is using video messages to deliver coronavirus safety information to homeless individuals

Keeping safe from the coronavirus... that's the message a local business is taking directly to an at risk population -- homeless individuals.

I spent some time with the owner to learn about the initiative - he calls "unsheltered tv" lights, camera, action - it's not hollywood& local video entreprenuer matt york is creating& short videos not for a theatre audience& but rather, butte county's homeless population.

"there are hundreds of people who are homeless and they're probably not getting these messages as consistently as possible."

York is well- versed in delivering health and hygiene training videos to those who have few resources.

Ggggyou may remember - i introduced you to him last year, as he and his team partnered with n.g.o.'s in developing countries using video & to educate and inspire.

Now - with coronavirus curtailing international travel - and the health threat on the rise at home& york says he wanted to apply the same concepts he took abroad - to help in his own backyard.

He is taking potentially life- saving health and safety messaging directly to the homeless population - in areas familiar to them.

"we bring this video projectors that are battery operated and we join our partners, to project video images on screens in dark places; during the day under the freeway in bidwell park, or at the end of day&" right now - york is still testing out the equipment and the concept - but says there is already interest from more social service agencies - in using technology and video - to try and hold off the coronavirus heavily impacting the homeless.

"we wanted to help people understand how to control the spread of the virus."

York and his team will be hosting another test demonstration for the concept - toda* - at 12:30 in bidwell park - beneath the freeway overpass.

He tells me - he hopes to be able to provide this type of safety messaging to communities across the country.
