Education meeting next week will allow the public to argue their sides in the debate over the school mascot...more than 4,000 people have signed an online petition to get rid of the the savannah school district's mascot of the savages... according to comments made on the change.org petition..

The mascot creates a hostile environment for any student of color, but particularly students of native background and supporters want the named changed... (sot, kaiser haag: "if this mascot is changed.") there's a growing petition to keep the savannah mascot the same... more than 2,000 people have signed online... and supporters believe the mascot is not offensive because they honor those that came before and never use the term in a derogratory fashion... and i asked one savannah graduate point blank if he was against the name change... (sot, hunter bailey: "sit down and discuss.") anyone wishing to speak at the school board meeting tuesday should submit a comment the night of the meeting stating which item already on the existing agenda they want to discuss... each person will be alloweed the floor for 3 minutes...and the district expects a large crowd on hand tuesday...the meeting will take place inside the savannah high school gym... and it needs to be said... while the board will hear from the community tuesday, but issues brought to the board through public comment will not be immediately discussed per board policy and the concerns of the mascot will not be addressed by the board on tuesday... the meeting starts at 7 tuesday... i'll bring you more on this story sunday night on kq2 news at
